RickD’s GeekSpeak presentation at Summit!
October 31, 2008
As noted in a previous post, visionapp Chief Techie Rick Dehlinger spoke at Citrix Summit 09. Citrix shot footage of Rick’s presentation and has graciously shared it with us.
Mandatory support
October 30, 2008
One of the changes we just made at visionapp is that our remote desktop product, vRD 2008, is no longer available without support.
This makes it cost a bit more, but we had far too many people who were buying the product without support, who then contacted us for support. As you can imagine, they weren’t too happy when we told them they had bought the product without support.
As far as I know, we took those support calls and e-mails anyway, but we want to provide a better customer experience, so we’re making support mandatory.
Personally, I think this will be a good thing for our customers: we recently bought one of our vRD competitors, the mRemote freeware tool, and we’re implementing its features too. Of course, the more features that are implemented, the less simple the product is and the more likely it is that support will be needed.
Do any vRD users out there disagree?
Citrix Summit is over…
October 29, 2008
…and I think we had a pretty successful show. Citrix expects a ton of people at their customer show in May, and we gave away a ton of foam racecars (our theme was “Accelerate your competitive advantage with visionapp”).
For those of you who didn’t get to come to our booth, or who aren’t sure what I mean by “Accelerate your competitive advantage,” I’ll explain it a bit more.
One of our software products, vSM, automates the build of server and desktop images — I’ve seen a whole Citrix XenApp farm get built in one afternoon; plus, updating the system (with a new app, a patch, etc., is super-easy). The idea is that you, as a Citrix Solution Advisor, can use vSM to build your customers’ farms in a fraction of the time–and because you can do it more quickly than non-vSM-using CSA’s, you’ll get more business without dropping your margins.
I’ve talked to some CSA’s who don’t like that business model, but there are several out there who see some real value in it — and, as Gary Veynerchuk says, they’re ready to kill it. We’ll see how it plays out — history tells us that automation can revolutionize every industry out there, and cloud computing could certainly use some of that!
